'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Continuity Problems; Can They Be Fixed?

Several fans and critics seem to think that the 'X-Men' timeline has been damaged forever, while others believe this is a full reboot and that there are no continuity errors.

If you haven't seen X-Men: Days of Future Past yet, there will be plenty of spoilers below, so read on at your own risk.

In one of his only interviews leading up to the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer addressed the several continuity errors that fans have noticed, including Wolverine's adamantium claws somehow returning after they were sliced off by the Silver Samurai in The Wolverine, and the fact that Trask Industries founder Bolivar Trask is played by Peter Dinklage in this movie and African-American actor Bill Duke in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand.

Here's what the director had to say about the continuity in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
"Some things you let go. In X-Men: The Last Stand Bolivar Trask was an African-American guy, in X-Men 1 I personally wrote the line that of course I now regret: 'When I was 17, I met a young man named Erik Lensherr' and then in X-Men: First Class I changed that! Some of these I hope the audience will forget about but for the bulk of it I pay attention to the universe."
While some fans may have forgotten about the continuity problems, many others have not, with several different viewpoints surfacing regarding how X-Men: Days of Future Past affects the 14-year franchise, leaving several lingering questions about certain characters and story aspects.

One of the big questions that has lingered since the end credits scene in The Wolverine is how the older Professor X (Patrick Stewart) is still alive, since he was killed in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand at the hands of the Dark Phoenix/Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). There is a theory that Xavier shifted his consciousness into his twin brother, although that family connection isn't exactly explained.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past's 1973 scenes, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) still has his bone claws, since he hasn't gone through the Weapon X program that infused adamantium into his skeletal system. However, in scenes set in the year 2023, the metal claws are back, even though the Silver Samurai sliced them off in last year's The Wolverine. Many believe that future Magneto (Ian McKellen) was responsible for the repair of his claws, but it is never fully stated in the movie.

The subject of Wolverine's claws gets even trickier when you take into consideration that the ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past hints that Wolverine/Logan won't even go into the Weapon X program at all. Of course, since Logan can't remember much about his past, it isn't exactly known when he enters this Weapon X program initiated by William Stryker, played by Josh Helman in X-Men: Days of Future Past. It's possible that he goes through the program in the 1980s, when X-Men: Apocalypse is reportedly set, but Wolverine never retracts his claws during the final scene in the year 2023, after the future was saved, so it isn't known if he has the adamantium claws or bone claws.

The last scene takes place in the year 2023, with Wolverine waking up at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters in a peaceful future, after the Sentinels have been erased from the timeline. The scene includes Rogue (Anna Paquin), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Colossus (Daniel Cudmore), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) and the big surprise inclusion of the resurrected Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) and Cyclops (James Marsden). After the Sentinels were destroyed, it created a whole new timeline that is only tied to X-Men: First Class, meaning Jean's death never happened. Badass Digest's piece indicates that the original trilogy, X-Men, X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand ceased to exist, after the mutants were revealed to the world decades earlier than in the previous timeline, when Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) is prevented from killing Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage).

With X-Men: First Class taking place in the 1960s, X-Men: Days of Future Past set in the 1970s and X-Men: Apocalypse set in the 1980s, it appeared that this prequel franchise would eventually merge with the original X-Men trilogy, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, since X-Men: Days of Future Past created a whole new timeline after the Sentinels were destroyed. The new timeline renders a lot of these continuity errors moot, such as the two different versions of Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: The Last Stand and Wolverine's claws, since it isn't known if the Weapon X program even exists in this timeline.

Several other plot points have been addressed over the past few days, such as how Magneto even got his abilities back to begin with after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, where a serum removed his powers, the ages when Charles and Erik first meet, and many more. Do you even care about these continuity errors? Are you willing to "forget" about them and move on like Bryan Singer suggested earlier this month? Chime in with your thoughts below.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was released May 23rd, 2014 and stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.

iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 release date June 2014 - available in October?

The much anticipated iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 release date is in June and will be available for purchase in October, according to reports.

Apple has not made an official announcement regarding the concrete launch of its tablet line – iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3. However, it was predicted that the tablets will be introduced alongside the iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 at the company's annual Worldwide Developers' Conference happening on June 2. Consumers can start queuing outside the Apple Store for the tablets on its usual window.

Previous reports claimed that iPad Air 2 will be the only tablet that Apple will release this year. According to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, Apple is prioritizing the iPad Air 2 more than the rumored iPad Mini 3 and iPad Pro.

"Compared with lower-margin iPad mini with Retina display, which shipments has been tepid, higher-margin iPad Air was a hot selling item in 4Q13, which will slow Apple in developing new iPad mini models," Ming-Chi Kuo said in his report to investors.

"We believe Apple plans to launch upgraded iPad Air early this year, and will accelerate development of 12.9″ iPad," Kuo added.

Meanwhile, rumors claimed that iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 will sport the TouchID fingerprint sensor, which was skipped on the previous iPad Air. The fingerprint scanner was first seen on the iPhone 5S, which was released earlier than iPad Air. The tablet will also pack an iOS 8 that will come with rumored features and functions such as the split-screen multitasking feature in mobile devices, which will enable users to use two applications at the same time.

Moreover, iPad Air 2 was also rumored to pack the next generation of A8 processor with 64-bit architecture that delivers faster performance. However, others speculated that the tablet will be powered by Intel processors just like the MacBooks.

Google Readying 3-D Mapping "Tango" Tablets For Developers

3D Project Tango
Google is reportedly getting ready to release 4,000 prototype tablets that would help advance the company's Project Tango, which is a 3D mapping and modeling effort involving multiple robotics experts from around the world. The story was first published in the Wall Street Journal last week.

Google may provide these specialized tablets to developers attending Google I/O next month. The idea would be to see what sorts of applications and use cases developers would come up with.

According to a description of these "Tango tablets" (not Google's term) in the article the devices would have a 7-inch form factor:

The device would come with a 7-inch screen and will be equipped with two back cameras, infrared depth sensors and advanced software that can capture precise three-dimensional images of objects, said these people.
There are a range of immediate potential uses for the Tango technology: gaming, augmented reality, environmental or interior design, indoor navigation and assistance for visually-impaired persons (who could listen to auditory cues based on mapping information). There are also commercial and ad-related applications of the technology — however the advertising dimension (so to speak) is further out.

Project Tango could, in one sense, be seen as an indoor Street View equivalent (though the technology doesn't take "pictures"). It could greatly accelerate Google's effort to map indoor spaces with the aid of third parties. I also wonder whether Google would be able to put a version of the Tango technology in special Glass headsets.

Google creates new Pro-Android Campaign to Better Compete with Apple's iPhone & Keep Samsung In Line

A new report posted today claims that Google wants to take a run at Apple's iPhone with a new line of smartphones called "Silver" that's really just killing off the Nexus branding for something that they could market better. The plan is also a part of a backup plan should Samsung decide to push their Tizen platform against Android.

The Information news site claims that they have the exclusive on Google's new plan. The Information is reporting that "Google is gearing up for a major effort to spur development of premium Android smartphones and re-assert control over the Android ecosystem as it seeks to better compete with the Apple iPhone and blunt the growing power of Samsung, the leading maker of Android phones.

The expensive effort involves dumping the four-year-old Google Nexus phone brand in favor of a new program called Silver, under which manufacturers and wireless carriers will effectively be paid to produce and sell high-end devices that closely adhere to Google specifications, according to four people briefed on the project. The requirements sharply limit the number of non-Google apps that can be pre-installed on devices, or mandate that phone owners be able to uninstall them.

The report notes that Google could spend as a billion dollars to support pro-Android OEM's. What would set Silver apart from normal Android is that Google would limit the number of third party apps and services included on the device, hinting that these phones will run the pure version of Android. Most popular Android smartphone makers, such as Samsung and HTC, put their own skin that focuses on their proprietary apps over Android. The deal is so good that even Samsung may join the program.

Efrati further states that "Google's main goals are to reverse consumer perceptions of Android as a down-market knock-off of the iPhone and establish a more consistent 'Google' experience for high-end Android customers."

Though there's one last point that might be the real motivator behind Google's new plan: "Google is worried that Samsung is taking over Android, pushing it in directions Google doesn't want to go. Silver would be part of a plant to reclaim the platform."

After years of Samsung toying with Tizen and experiencing a major setback in January with NTT DoCoMo, Samsung revealed earlier this month that their first Tizen phone, which will launch around the end of the second quarter, would be a high-end model and the second would mainly be aimed at the middle of the market to drive volume growth.

Is Google a little jittery about the prospect of Samsung drifting away from the Android ecosystem and pushing their own Tizen based smartphones over time? Yes of course they are and this is proof enough.

Concept Video Surfaces showing iPhone 6 with iOS 8 Features

iOS 8 is coming. With a host of new features tipped, including alleged support for an iWatch, could Apple be set to reveal an OS perfectly tailored for the iPhone 6?

A new concept video created by TechRadar illustrates a compilation of rumored ideas that might make their way to the next iPhone 6 running iOS 8. The video illustrates such rumored ideas as the new Healthbook app, Notification Center and other concepts such as the new DriveMode patent idea and a new Shazam feature that would be better served as a CarPlay feature.

Apple Opens OS X Betas to General Users for Free with New Seed Program

For all of Apple's strengths, it's usually not a company that's associated with letting us do things for free. Judging from last year's news about OS X Mavericks and the followup news about the iWork suite, that may be changing. Indeed, as The Loop reports, Apple is apparently even introducing an beta program for OS X that'll let non-developers see the builds for Apple's signature desktop operating system before they're released to the public.

Up until recently, discovering what waited in store in the next iteration of OS X required a developer account costing $99 per year. Now, however, average users can apply to join the OS X Beta Seed Program, which will let you download pre-release versions of OS X via the Updates panel in the Mac App Store.

The only catch is that you'll have to sign a confidentiality agreement, which prevents you from sharing, publishing, or disseminating information about the beta to anyone who's not enrolled in the program. You'll then be asked to download a backup for your Mac and then download a Beta Access Utility App that ensures that the Mac App Store will list the newest beta updates.

All you need to sign up is your Apple ID, which you enter on the new "Appleseed" web site. Keep in mind, though, that betas are usually unstable by definition, and running them brings a real risk of causing problems you wouldn't have otherwise experienced on your Mac.

Xbox One/PS4/PC game Lords of the Fallen gets a new trailer

LORDS of the FALLEN is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC this Fall 2014! Check out this new trailer for Namco's upcoming role-playing game.

Namco Bandai today released a new trailer for its upcoming role-playing game Lords of the Fallen, coming this fall to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The "Challenge" trailer shows off the Champion Lord taking on a hulking, armored beast. You can probably guess how it ends…"Deal the pain. Never stop," Namco says.

Lords of the Fallen is a third-person action role-playing game from Deck13 and CI Games. It may bear a resemblance to the Dark Souls series, but its developers think it stands apart.

The Champion Lord has always been a bit different from other commanders of the Fallen God's demonic army. For them, it was all about honor and discipline. For the Champion it was all about the intensity of a duel and the bloodthirsty satisfaction from defeating an opponent. Where other Lords would respectfully circle around their opponent, the easily enraged Champion will charge right into the fray with his pure brute force. He always likes to get his hands dirty, so his weapons of choice need to be close to his body, allowing him to smell the blood of his victims. Of course, at close range, his boiling bloodlust and reckless charges don't leave him much in terms of defense, but who would stand against a hulking brute like him? You?

Apple Stores and corporate campus to celebrate 2014 Earth Day

Apple's brick-and-mortar stores in the United States and around the world will celebrate the upcoming Earth Day next Tuesday, April 22. According to a new report Thursday, Apple's Cupertino, California campus will also join the celebration with a major internal event on April 22 focused on 2014 Earth Day.

This year's Earth Day, prefixed with Green Cities, is focused on environment-friendly buildings, transportation and cities. Apple Stores will change their logo color to green to mark the occasion. More info right after the break…

According to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, employees of certain Apple retail stores will be given new Earth Day T-shirts to wear on April 22, according to multiple Apple employees who spoke to the blogger.
Apple will be honoring Earth Day in its retail stores across the world by covering the Apple Store logos with green. There have also been indications that employees of some stores will be given new Earth Day shirts to wear on April 22.
As for Apple's main campus, employees say that a large-scale internal event will be held in the afternoon of April 22 and the likely focus is Earth Day.
In a similar vein, the company observed the World AIDS day by changing its logo in retail stores to a red color.

Back in 2006, the iPhone maker celebrated Earth Day by launching a computer take-back program, an expansion of the firm's ongoing recycling program, where US customers who bought a new Mac from Apple received free shipping and environmentally friendly disposal of their old computer.

Why didn't DVD play on my computer?

Hello DVD fans! Have you encountered "wrong region" problems when playback DVD on computer?

We all know that a region 1 DVD cannot playback on region 2 DVD player or computer due to region code issue. It's what film distributors used to control aspects of film release, including content, box office, price or so, according to the region.

Here is a DVD region code map worldwide:

In most computers, region code restriction is written to DVD drive firmware. If you didn't set it properly, you cannot playback most DVDs even if this DVD drive is transferred to another computer. WinDVD offers five times to allow you change DVD drive region code, for example you can change your DVD drive to region 1 to play a region 1 DVD. But note if the number of allowances reaches zero, the region last used will be permanent.
